CONCEPT OF FOOD IN THE NOVEL «VILNA COMMUNARDS» BY M. HARETSKYY IN THE CONTEXT OF LITERATURE GASTRONOMIC TRADITIONS 1920–30’s

Abstract
The article is devoted to the category of food, that determines the ideological and aesthetic features of the novel «Vilna Communards» by modernist Belarusian Maxim Haretskyy, whose creative career was prematurely cut short by Soviet repressive mechanism. The purpose of our study – to analyze the specific features of the food concept and gastronomic сode in the novel by Belarusian writer. The object of the study – the novel by M. Haretskyy «Vilna Communards». The subject of the study – the specificity of the food concept and features of gastronomic code in the novel «Vilna Communards». It was found, that the concept of food appears as a crucial in the semiotics of the novel. And gastronomic code is a key factor, that forms senses in the text. It also models reading vector, foregrounds the important committed and ideological antinomies and causes its aesthetics and stylistics. The chronology of the events in the novel by M. Haretskyy – both personal life of the hero-narrator, and social and political events – has the gastronomic marks and is integral to line of food. So continuity of historical and gastronomic narrative, the concept of history and the concept of food unity, the syncretism of eventfulness and food imagery are typical for text. Such syncretism eventfulness and food imagery is generally inherent in carnival tradition. So for the artist it is a triggers for carnival text, and combined with the Trickster-greedy image it forms the key tone of the text and its style features – the carnival, tragicomedy, mixing high and low, the totality of the gastronomic symbols and the unity of history and food at consept level.
