Conceptual basics of sustainable development and their implementation in agriculture in modern conditions

Abstract
The purpose of the research is to reveal evolution of sustainable development concept and to determine preconditions for introduction of fundamental principles in agro-food sector based on transition to a sustainable agricultural intensification. The genesis of public awareness of the need for a transition to sustainable development is explored. The studies of international organizations concerning the problem of sustainable development has been analyzed allowing formation an opinion about state of the current crisis in the natural environment. The reasons that influence the unsolved problem of sustainable development are generalized. The basic principle of sustainable development, which consists of changing the human consciousness, its system of values, norms, rules and traditions, attitude to nature and to another person, is grounded. The definition of sustainable agricultural production, which is highly productive, cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and refers to the principles of equality and social equity is given. Problems of improving agricultural productivity and related processes of agricultural production intensification are considered. It is emphasized that agricultural intensification should be carried out on a sustainable basis. Characteristics of reasonable (sustainable) intensification observance of which has a favorable impact on the environment are described. The refusal of resource-intensive intensification of the industrial type, which practically contradicts the sustainable intensification is emphasized. It is determined that economic growth on the basis of sustainable agricultural development as a key component of the agro-food sector should take place simultaneously with the preservation of the environment, accompanied by social progress and contribute to raising the level of socio-cultural development of rural areas. Attention to the European experience of sustainable agricultural production, which is regulated by the Common Agricultural Policy of the EU is drawn. The experience of France in developing new approaches to the study of sustainable agricultural activity is presented, in particular the establishment of a long-term socio-ecological research platform that provides research of biodiversity changes in the context of intensification of agriculture and the search for ways of its preserving.
