CONCEPTUAL STUDY OF ALCOHOL USED DISORDER (CHRONIC ALCOHOLISM) A REVIEW

Abstract

Alcohol used as a drink for the purpose to reduce tension. Alcohol is consumed, atleast partly, for its mood altering properties, but when used in moderation, it is socially acceptable. It is a drug of addiction & is responsible for many socioeconomic problems, crimes, morbidity & mortality. It is contributory factor in many deaths. Alcohol distributes throughout the body affecting almost all systems & altering nearly every neurochemical process in the brain. The lifetime risk for serious, repetitive, alcohol problems is almost 20% for men & 10% for women. Alcohol abuse is more widespread hazards and claims many more lives. Fifty percent of adults in wastern countries drink alcohol and 5% to 10% have chronic alcoholism. Alcohol is most commonly abused drug in United states, where 17.6million peoples or one in every 12 adults suffer from alcohol abuse. As alcoholism is a chronic brain disease, its awareness is very important. Alcohol awareness is basically public information about the use & abuse of alcohol. Alcoholism is third leading preventable cause of death. It is worldwide social & medical problem. It is multi-factorial disorder in which genetic, environmental & biologic factors contribute. As it is vastly growing disorder in all socio economic groups so wide spread public education & awareness is unique way to control this disease. This paper throws light on diagnosis, physical effects on body, treatment & Rehabilitation of chronic alcoholism.
