CONCEPTUAL STUDY OF OBESITY AND ITS MANAGEMENT BY AYURVEDA

Abstract
Obesity is a multi-factorial metabolic disorder occupying major share in today’s life style disosrder. According to WHO India is the third most obese country of the world, the prevalence of obesity is higher in urban population as compare to rural. Obesity shortens the life span and also diminish the happiness and efficiency of a person. Obese peoples are at a risk factor for life threatening diseases like hypertension, cardiovascular disorder, cancer and diabetes. Obesity is very well said in Ayurveda by Sthoulya and Medoroga by different Acharya’s. It has been classified under “Asta Nindit Purusha” and Santarpanotha vikar. Acharya Charaka has described Obesity as a disease of fat tissue. Ayurveda gives a line of prevention as well as the management of Obesity. An attempt has been made to understand Obesity through Ayurved and modern point of view and solutions to treat it with the help of Ayurveda.
