CONCERNING THE HISTORY OF CONFESSIONS AND ETHNORELIGIOUS SELF-DETERMINATION OF GERMAN AND MENNONITE COMMUNITIES IN UKRAINE

Abstract
Ethnopolitical and ethnosocial processes within the German ethnic community in Ukraine are of special significance for exploring state policy in the realm of ethnos. In the article below there is an attempt made to restore the history of Germans and Mennonites in the context of policies of both Russian Empire and Soviet Union. The peculiarities of the confessional communities of Germans and Mennonites activities are under consideration too. In particular, there are viewed concepts like “Germans”, “Mennonites”, “German speaking ethnic community”, “German ethnic group” etc. It is noted that German and Mennonite confession communities always expressed their loyalty to the political power in the state. In the same time, the totalitarian regime responded with the repressions towards their church clergy and parishioners.
