Concurrent Acarine and Mycotic Infestations in a Non Descript Male Dog and Its Successful Therapeutic Management

Abstract

A male mongrel dog suffering from generalized dermatitis on face, for the past few months, was presented for treatment. The animal was under indiscriminate therapy consisting of immuno-suppressive drugs with no consequence. Clinical examination of the animal and laboratory investigations of 10% KOH digested deep skin scrapings revealed concurrent Demodex canis and Microsporum gypseum infestations. The dog responded the integrated specific therapy comprising of synchronous whole body wash of antimycotic lotion and anti acarine soap, parenteral dose of ivermectin cautious systematic administration of acaricides and antifungal drugs and supportive therapy. Face lesions resolved dramatically with normal hair coat within 5 months post therapy.
