Connaissances et attitudes des infirmiers sur la responsabilité civile médicale en cas d’infections nosocomiales dans les hôpitaux généraux de Mbujimayi en Republique Democratique du Congo

Abstract

Introduction: Nosocomial infections are a public health problem because they cause increased morbidity, mortality, hospital stay and costs of care for patients. Our study aimed to: assess the knowledge and attitudes of nurses facing civil medical liability in case of nosocomial infections. Material and method: This quantitative correlational descriptive study involved 167 nurses working in the general referral hospitals of the Sanitary District of the city of Mbujimayi for a period of 2 months, from 1 February to 1 April 2010. Data were collected using a non- A specific questionnaire was constructed for this study and was entered and analyzed using epi info version 3.5 software. Résultats: On the basis of our sample, 167 survey questionnaires were sent to the nurses concerned by the study through the trained interviewers. These respondents consisted of 52.1% of A1 nurses, 36.5% of A2 nurses and 11.4% of A3 nurses. Supervision of this data collection process was carried out by us and it was found that 100% of the respondents participated in the survey and answered all the main questions in all, of which 28.1% Nurses had poor knowledge of the definition of civilian medical liability in the case of nosocomial infections, but 85.6% of nurses had a positive attitude towards medical liability for the fact that they Nosocomial infections are compensated in relation to our interpretation scale. Conclusion: The results of our study showed that in general the knowledge of the nurses was bad because their training program did not include the hospital hygiene course or the legal aspects. But these nurses had a positive attitude because of their personal conscience. Thus, in order to improve the nurses' knowledge of civil medical liability in the case of nosocomial infections, we found it useful that the Ministry of Higher Education and the 6th Directorate of Health Sciences Education integrate In the program and training courses at all levels, detailed notions about nosocomial infections and civilian medical liability. But also that the health authorities of the various hospitals reinforce the continuing education and in turn the nurses become aware for a self-training.
