Construction Challenges for Hilly Road: A Case Study

Abstract

Hilly roads have different kinds of complication in planning, design, construction and maintenance. The author of this paper prof. S.K Sinha has worked as Assistant Engineer (Civil) in the construction of road in the hilly terrain of Bhutan, a neighbouring country of India. The challenges faced during construction have been highlighted and innovative solutions are suggested so that our budding civil engineers may make the initiative of “Make in India” a success. Further Er.Hargovind Shukla, H.O.D Civil Engineering Department who has got in depth knowledge in geotechnical engineering has also contributed his deep thought/ suggestion in the behavior of soil studies which is of paramount importance in the construction of roads in hills.
