Construction of an evaluative tool aimed to elderly home institution: an experience report

Abstract
This study aimed to describe an assessment tool experience designed for an elderly home institution. Evaluative research when it was designed a tool based on public policies for nurses’ care in this kind of institution. The research was developed in a home for elderly in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, 2009. The tool features six pages of three columns: in the first column was written the issues to be observed, in the second one, there was notes of what needs to be verified/evaluated, in the third, was legal devices that hold the records required and requested. This tool includes three dimensions: organizational structure, physical structure suitable for a home for aged; specific care to residents. The evaluative tool designed proves an important tool for use by nurses’ work at homes for aged and it is hoped that it can contribute to the development of the nurses’ care.
