CONSTRUCTIONS WITH GRADATIONAL CONJUNCTIONS IN THE STORIES BY KONSTANTIN PAUSTOVSKY
Journal Title: Мова - Year 2014, Vol 0, Issue 22
Abstract
The article looks upon the features of the use of conjunctive gradational constructions of various structures in the stories by Paustovsky. All coordinative gradational constructions (40), selected from 50 stories written between 1929 and 1961, were analyzed here. The writer often uses conjunction ne tоl’kо… nо i 70 % of the total number of constructions). Using of other conjunctions can be considered a single: ne tоl’kо… nо dazhe 5 %), ne to chto… а dazhe 5 %), verneye 5 %), ne tоl’kо… nо (2.5 %), ne tоl’kо ne… nо (2,5 %), ne tоl’kо… nо prosto (2.5 %), ne tоl’kо… a i (2.5 %), ne tо chtо (2.5 %), а tо i (2.5 %). Other gradational conjunctions are not fixed in the texts of stories. In the lingual picture of the world of Paustovsky gradational coordinative conjunctions dominate as a means of connection of homogeneous parts of the sentences (92.5 % of use). Occasionally they are used by Paustovsky for connection of parts of the complex sentences 5 % of use) and for connection of separate sentences in the text (2.5 %). The relations between more meaningful and less meaningful concepts dominate among the three types of gradational relations 95 % of use).
