CONTENTS OF THE COMPONENTS OF TEACHER’S PSYCHOLOGICAL COMPETENCY IN HIGHER EDUCATION

Abstract

The authors emphasized the importance of the psychological competence of a teacher in higher education. It is noted that after coming into force of the Law of Ukraine "On Higher Education" [1], all higher educational institutions gradually turn to a competency-oriented approach of learning. Therefore, an important condition for the formation and development of certain types of competency for the applicants of a certain educational level is the competence of the teacher of higher education because the quality and effectiveness of the educational process depends on him/her. According to the authors, psychological competence is the ability of a teacher of higher education to build and implement social interaction in a psychologically competent, rational, productive and effective way during the pedagogical process. The psychological competence of a teacher of higher education determines the totality of its components, that is, professionally important knowledge, skills, proficiency, habits, qualities, abilities, motivation, worldview, professional- psychological readiness and experience. The specific contents of the professionally important components of the psychological competence of the teacher of higher educational institutions is revealed and it is emphasized that it provides socially adequate, professionally important forms and strategies of the teacher's behaviour. It is noted that psychological competence is interconnected with other types of competency profile of the teacher of the university, and therefore, it is necessary to have a clear idea about the contents of other types of competency of the competencial profile of the teacher in higher education.
