Controlling factors and physical property cutoffs of the tight reservoir in the Liuhe Basin
Journal Title: Advances in Geo-Energy Research - Year 2017, Vol 1, Issue 3
Abstract
Tight gas sandstone reservoirs of the Lower Cretaceous Xiahuapidianzi Formation are the main exploration target in the Liuhe Basin in China. Petrology characteristics, reservoir space (pore space), controlling factors and physical property cutoffs of the tight sandstone reservoir in the Liuhe Basin were determined through the integrated analysis of several methods including: casting thin section, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and nitrogen gas adsorption (N2GA). The sandstones dominated by lithic arkoses and feldspathic litharenites are characterized by low porosity, low permeability and strong microscopic heterogeneity. The porosity has a range between 0.48% and 4.80%, with an average of 2.26%. Intercrystalline pores, intergranular pores, dissolved pores and microfractures can be observed through the casting thin section and FE-SEM images. Compaction and carbonate cementation are the two primary mechanisms resulting in the low porosity of the Liuhe sandstones. Microfractures improve the permeability of the tight sandstones and provide pathways for fluid migration and the storage of hydrocarbon accumulations. Moreover, the theoretical cutoff of the porosity in the Xiahuapidianzi Formation tight sandstones is 3.3%.

Characterization of marine-terrigenous transitional Taiyuan formation shale reservoirs in Hedong coal field, China
To better understand the basic characteristics of Marine-terrigenous Transitional Taiyuan formation shale (TYS) reservoirs in Hedong coal field, a series of reservoir evaluation experiments were conducted on 33 core samp...
A self-similar analytical solution of spontaneous and forced imbibition in porous media
Both viscous and capillary forces control the two-phase flow in porous media. The Buckley Leverett solution for viscous flow in porous media has been proposed for over a half century. While the corresponding studies of c...
A transparent Open-Box learning network provides insight to complex systems and a performance benchmark for more-opaque machine learning algorithms
It is now commonplace to deploy neural networks and machine-learning algorithms to provide predictions derived from complex systems with multiple underlying variables. This is particularly useful where direct measurement...
A new model for calculating permeability of natural fractures in dual-porosity reservoir
During the development of naturally fractured carbonate reservoirs, understanding the change in fracture permeability is the basis for production evaluation and scientific development. The conventional method of analyzin...
Impact of four different CO2 injection schemes on extent of reservoir pressure and saturation
This study investigates how four different injection schemes, (i. constant rate, ii. stepwise increasing rate, iii. stepwise decreasing rate, and iv. cyclic rate), constrained by the cumulative amount of CO2 injected, af...
