Correlations between fattening and slaughter performance test results of gilts and their subsequent reproductive performance
Journal Title: Journal of Animal and Feed Sciences - Year 2014, Vol 23, Issue 2
Abstract
The aim of the study was to estimate correlations between fattening and slaughter traits of gilts and their subsequent reproductive performance. A total of 5468 Polish Landrace gilts from nucleus farms were studied. Daily gain and selection index were positively correlated (0.14–0.22) with the number of piglets born and reared in successive litters. For the other traits, the correlations with reproductive traits were close to zero. The phenotypic correlations obtained between fattening and slaughter performance traits and subsequent reproductive performance of gilts are in most cases indicative of the low relationship between these traits.

The effect of dietary potassium and sodium on performance, carcass traits, and nitrogen balance and excreta moisture in broiler chicken
The aim of the 3 × 3 factorial experiment on broilers was to investigate the effect of high dietary levels of potassium (K) and different levels of sodium (Na) on chicken performance, carcass traits, dry matter content i...
Interdependence of the peripheral metabolism of glucocorticoids and thyroid hormones under calorie deficit in rats at different ages
The joint effects of energy restriction and age on adrenal glucocorticoid synthesis, liver signalling and liver thyroid hormone metabolism were examined. Adrenal type 1 11β-hydroxylase expression was chosen as a marker o...
The effect of different physical forms of rapeseed as a fat supplement on the activity of some enzymes in the duodenal chyme of dairy cows
Studies on nutritional regulation of digestive enzymes in ruminants are scarce. Fat supplementation of diets for dairy cows changes the supply of nutrients for absorption and transport. The aim of this experiment was to...
The relationship between fertility and intermediate optimum type traits in Polish Holstein-Friesian cows
The purpose of this study was to find early indicators of cow fertility. Genetic correlations of two types of conformation evaluations, routine and modified, with reproduction traits were estimated. Data consisted of typ...
