Correlations between fattening and slaughter performance test results of gilts and their subsequent reproductive performance
Journal Title: Journal of Animal and Feed Sciences - Year 2014, Vol 23, Issue 2
Abstract
The aim of the study was to estimate correlations between fattening and slaughter traits of gilts and their subsequent reproductive performance. A total of 5468 Polish Landrace gilts from nucleus farms were studied. Daily gain and selection index were positively correlated (0.14–0.22) with the number of piglets born and reared in successive litters. For the other traits, the correlations with reproductive traits were close to zero. The phenotypic correlations obtained between fattening and slaughter performance traits and subsequent reproductive performance of gilts are in most cases indicative of the low relationship between these traits.

The effect of dietary fat, vitamin E and selenium concentrations on the fatty acid profile and oxidative stability of frozen stored broiler meat
A total of 160 Ross 308 female broilers from day 22 to 35 of age were used to investigate the effects of vitamin E and selenium (Se) supplementation on performance, fatty acid profile and oxidative stability of meat enri...
Effects of dietary caprylic and capric acids on piglet performance and mucosal epithelium structure of the ileum
digestibility of nutrients, intestinal microflora and small intestine (ileum) structure were investigated. The experiment was performed on 252 piglets (24 litters) allocated to 4 experimental groups (6 litters each). The...
Localization of kisspeptin neurons in the hypothalamus of peripubertal female lambs; possible connection with gonadotrophin releasing hormone and neuropeptide Y neurons
Hypothalamic peptide kisspeptin (kp) plays a major role in the initiation of pubertal events in mammals through the activation of gonadotrophin- -releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons. The present study was designed to analys...
Nutritional and energy value of wheat cultivars for broiler chickens
Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) grain of 6 spring and 3 winter cultivars was analysed for nutrients content including amino acids, fatty acids, starch, sugars and fibre, and dietary fibrę fractions. Digestibility of main nu...
Incorporation of nitrogen isotope 15N into liver DNA during avian embryogenesis. A new approach for measuring the rate of DNA synthesis
The objective of this experiment was to test the possibilities of measuring the rate of DNA synthesis in chicken embryos by applying a simple 15N tracer technique. We hypothesized that the rate of 15N incorporation into...
