CREATIVE WRITING STUDIES OF 5th GRADE STUDENTS IN SOCIAL SCIENCES COURSE

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyse outcomes of creative writing studies done in scope of “Science, Technology and Society” learning domain in 5th grade Social Sciences class. In this study, document review was used in scope of qualitative research method. Creative writing texts of students were reviewed as documents. Typical case sampling, which is one of purposeful sampling ways, was used in the study. In scope of this sampling, study group of the present research is 5th-grade students in a secondary school which is located in Afyonkarahisar province and of intermediary socio-economical level. Data for this research were collected in the spring semester of 2014-2015 school year. Implementation was completed while the subjects in the learning domain of “Science, Technology and Society” in the 5th grade Social Sciences classes were being taught. The texts written by students in scope of the said creative writing study were used as the dataset for document review in this research. , the expressions (flying skate, steel tree, etc.) that students used in the creative writing studies indicate that they used their imagination. When categories created under the theme of ‘discovery and scientist’ are analysed, it draws attention that the expressions in the creative writing studies of the studies coincide with their Social Sciences class acquisition that “Students recognize common features of inventors and scientists”. The fact that students want to make inventions to make life easier reflects that they acquired entrepreneurship skill which is in scope of Social Sciences class.
