CRETE EMIGRANTS IN KUŞADASI IN EARLY 20TH CENTURY

Abstract
In the 19th century, besides the migrations that occurred from the Caucasus and the Balkans to Anatolia, a new wave of migration known as : “Crete Migrations” emerged at the end of that century. Ottoman administrators were undertaken to build homes for Crete Emigrants who started to arrive Kuşadası-which is included in our work- after 1897. In a recording obtained from the Prime Ministry Ottoman Archives, an archive recording dated August 12, 1906, some emigrants have been placed in a village of Osmaniye which was previously established for the resettlement of the emigrants. In the neighborhoods of Kuşadası called as Alaca Mescit, Camii-i Atik, Camii-i Kebir, Hacı Feyzullah, Dağ and Türkmen, the emigrants was recorded with their names and occupations as residential, non-residential or rent settlers. With the founded latest records, in 1906 how many Crete Emigrants were settled in Osmaniye village and 5 neighborhood of Kuşadası, has been revealed. Today, 2nd and 3rd generations of Crete emigrants are still living in Kuşadası.
