CRISIS INTERVENTION IN COGNITIVE–BEHAVIORAL APPROACH – TECHNIQUES AND PROBLEM SOLVING STRATEGY

Journal Title: Psychiatria i Psychoterapia - Year 2012, Vol 8, Issue 1

Abstract

A crisis seems (crisis situation) to be an inevitable part of the human being. Critical events, which are permanently inscribed into the human life, force changes in the current functioning in family, social life and in relation to the world and oneself. Events that are perceived as negative, being particularly difficult experiences, often exceed individual’s abilities to cope with them on his own. In such a time there appears a threat of having serious changes in functioning, which may lead to a severe decompensation. It then becomes necessary to include such a person in a professional form of interventional treatment, which goal is to bring him to regain balance and autonomy. The subject content of this paper is psychological aid, being one of the many forms of interventional treatment on a person (group) located in the crisis, presented in the cognitive-behavioral approach. Due to the limitation associated with the volume of text, the authors only mention the principles of crisis intervention based on said approach, describe the most important, in their opinion, strategies and techniques, focusing a little bit more on one of them – the problem solving.
