Abstract
In this article I will examine the importance of cross-border cooperation concerning transport and infrastructure improvement. In particular, I will focus on multimodal transport development and alternative transport solutions in the Northern Adriatic region and Austria. I will stress fluvial and maritime transport opportunities, such as Short Sea Shipping (SSS), in order to reduce pollution levels due to traffic congestion and terrestrial freight abuse.
