Curriculum Based Vs Transformative Human Rights Education - Expectations and Challenges

Abstract

Human rights are the ‘basic rights and freedoms to which all humans are entitled’. The UN defines Human Rights identifying various factors like human freedom, equality, dignity, security and right to life. Down through the human history, human rights were understood from various dimensions and perspectives. This study explores the current scenario of HRE in higher education in India; mainly, how the teachers and students of selected colleges perceive and expect HRE to be and, the challenges in implementing an effective HRE.
