Abstract
Was Juliusz Kurzatkowski involved with sculpture? Materials for the history of puppet theatre in Lublin Juliusz Kurzątkowski (1888–1952) – Lublin artist, teacher of drawing, philanthropist and a regional historian; his field were graphics, painting, drawing and sculpture by which we understand modeling masks in papier-mâché for Lublin shows from the 1930s that had political parties as their topic, and puppet heads for post-war puppet theatres. In the interwar period in Lublin three satirical shows under the name “Reflector” were staged (1927, 1930, 1931), and another political show authored by the poet Józef Łobodowski (1937). During the first ten post-war years 8 puppet theatres were active in Lublin with whom Kurzątkowski collaborated from the second half of the 1940s. Those, in particular, were an amateur puppet theater of Lublin Grocers Cooperative (1946–1948) and “Koziolek” puppet theatre (1949–1951).
