Stalinizm zniszczył system czytelnictwa w Związku Radzieckim. W P olsce straty kulturowe były stosunkowo mniejsze z powodu kryzysu wydawniczego w latach 1951–1953, które zmusiły komunistów do odstąpienia od części planów indoktrynacji.
