Data Mining in Education
Journal Title: International Journal of Advanced Computer Science & Applications - Year 2016, Vol 7, Issue 6
Abstract
Data mining techniques are used to extract useful knowledge from raw data. The extracted knowledge is valuable and significantly affects the decision maker. Educational data mining (EDM) is a method for extracting useful information that could potentially affect an organization. The increase of technology use in educational systems has led to the storage of large amounts of student data, which makes it important to use EDM to improve teaching and learning processes. EDM is useful in many different areas including identifying at-risk students, identifying priority learning needs for different groups of students, increasing graduation rates, effectively assessing institutional performance, maximizing campus resources, and optimizing subject curriculum renewal. This paper surveys the relevant studies in the EDM field and includes the data and methodologies used in those studies.

A Hybrid Framework using RBF and SVM for Direct Marketing
One of the major developments in machine learning in the past decade is the ensemble method, which finds highly accurate classifier by combining many moderately accurate component classifiers. This paper addresses using...
Brain Signal Classification using Genetic Algorithm for Right-Left Motion Pattern
Brain signals or EEG are non-stationary signals and are difficult to analyze visually. The brain signal has five waves alpha, beta, delta, gamma, and theta. The five waves have their frequency to describe the level of at...
The Discovery of the Implemented Software Engineering Process Using Process Mining Techniques
Process model guidance is an important feature by which the software process is orchestrated. Without complying with this guidance, the production lifecycle deviates from producing a reliable software with high-quality s...
VHDL Design and FPGA Implementation of a Parallel Reed-Solomon (15, K, D) Encoder/Decoder
In this article, we propose a Reed Solomon error correcting encoder/decoder with the complete description of a concrete implementation starting from a VHDL description of this decoder. The design on FPGA of the (15, k, d...
Applications of Some Topological Near Open Sets to Knowledge Discovery
In this paper, we use some topological near open sets to introduce the rough set concepts such as near open lower and near open upper approximations. Also, we study the concept of near open, rough set and some of their b...
