Democracy and its grounds in Norberto Bobbio

Abstract
A central topic of Bobbio’s political philosophy is that of democracy. And as such, there are a number of approaches to his philosophy and its extensive intellectual production. This article has a specific goal which is to focus on some of Bobbio’s key notions, whereby it is possible to gain a more lucid understanding of his concepts of democracy and its misfortunes. This mere fact justifies an autonomous line of research. This article develops a precise conceptualization of democracy according to Bobbio, and next the linkage of this concept with that of political engagement is drawn within the framework of his political philosophy taking as guiding notion the idea of activae civitatis which underlies as ventral in this theme.c
