Deorbiting Upper-Stages in LEO at EOM using Solar Sails
Journal Title: INCAS BULLETIN - Year 2017, Vol 9, Issue 2
Abstract
This paper analyzes the possibility of deorbiting a launch vehicle upper-stage at end-of-mission from low Earth orbit through the use of a solar sail. Different solar sail sizes are taken into account. The analysis is made via a MATLAB numerical simulation, integrating with the ode45 solver the accelerations arising from geopotential, atmospheric drag and solar radiation pressure. Direct solar pressure and drag augmentation effect are analyzed and a state of the art study in the solar sail research field is performed for a better grasp of the feasibility of the device implementation.

Structured Robust Control for Small UAV
The performance and dynamic stability issues of flight control systems are still considered one of the most challenging design problems even though all of significant advances that have been happened in UAVs in the two l...
Intelligent control of HVAC systems.Part II: perceptron performance analysis
This is the second part of a paper on intelligent type control of Heating, Ventilating, and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) systems. The whole study proposes a unified approach in the design of intelligent control for such syste...
Velocity distribution as a result of the interaction between organizational processes in shear flows
This paper continues the recent research of the authors concerning the interaction between the micro and macro flow structure domains (further on called IPmMD). The authors propose a probabilistic type approach of the IP...
Optimizing ideal ion propulsion systems depending on the nature of the propellant
From all accounts the ion thrusters are characterized by the fact that they produce a very high exhaust velocity and specific impulse, sometimes too high for many missions. The exhaust velocity of the ionized particles i...
