DEPARTMENT OF SCIENTIFIC PROCESSING OF DOCUMENTS AND ORGANIZATION OF CATALOGUES OF THE SCIENTIFIC LIBRARY OF ODESSA I. I. MECHNIKOV NATIONAL UNIVERSITY: HISTORY AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Abstract
The article describes the process of creation and development of the Department of Scientific Processing of Documents and Organization of Catalogs of the Scientific Library of the Odessa I. I. Mechnikov National University. The archival materials establish the date and reasons for the establishment of the Department and its subsequent transformation. Changes in the structure and staff of the Department are associated with the expansion of its functions. The areas of work of Department at different stages of activity (cataloguing of new receipts, a rekatalogization of old fund, the organization and maintaining card and the electronic catalog, etc.) are considered in detail. Special attention is paid to improvement of library catalogs NB ONU (the 1930th – the 2000th) as to one of the most important areas of work of Department. The changes in work of Department connected with introduction of computer technologies and emergence of the new directions (cataloguing of new types of documents, creation of base of authoritative data in EC, introduction of UDC, etc.) are analysed.
