DEPRESSION SYNDROME AS A FIRST SYMPTOM OF PROGRESSIVE SUPRANUCLEAR PALSY. CASE STUDY

Abstract

The case of 51 year old female is presented in this study. The patient was admitted to outpatient clinic because of mood and attention disturbances. Treatment with many antidepressant drugs was ineffective. Detailed history revealed repeated collapses, impaired vision and swallowing difficulties. Shortly after the admission psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations and delusions and sleep disturbances started to occur. Her admission to the Clinic resulted in a more accurate diagnosis. Base on psychiatric and neurological examination and additional tests Progressive Supranuclear Palsy was diagnosed. Phenomenology of the case highlight the need for a detailed analysis of each psychiatric symptoms.
