Design Specificity of Direct Light LED Fixtures
Journal Title: Вентиляція, освітлення та теплогазопостачання - Year 2019, Vol 30, Issue
Abstract
The efficiency of electricity consumed in the field of lighting is largely determined by the nomenclature and characteristics of lighting fixtures. The nomenclature, the quality and the number of available light sources affect the range, design features and operational characteristics of lighting fixtures. The transition of society to digital light-emitting diode technology in lighting is a change in the paradigm that occurs at a rapid pace. Therefore, the use of such new light sources as LEDs for general illumination actualizes the need to investigate the specifics of light fixture design based on these sources. The article deals with the design of LED direct light fixtures. It was determined that its specificity consists in the following factors: directing the luminous flux of each light source perpendicular to the illuminated surface to improve the overall luminous efficiency of a fixture, using a surface as large as possible for the installation of LEDs, applying materials such as aluminium or thermal-conductive plastic for the manufacturing of reflectors, providing holes in the outer bounding surface of the reflector shell to improve the thermal conditions of a fixture, using LEDs with different body angles and the possibility of autonomous control of small groups of LEDs to ensure the variability of light distribution, placing LEDs with the shortest distance possible between their centres to soften multiple shadows, using LEDs with identical lens shapes in the same fixture to ensure aesthetic consistency of the entire product. Guided by the above-mentioned design features, two series of direct light LED lamps were designed using stepped shape of the reflector: one with two symmetry planes and the other with circular symmetry of a reflector. These constructions are protected by the Ukrainian Patent for utility model # 135975. In the future, it is expedient to study the design specifics of scattered light LEDs, as well as to consider in detail the simplified method of calculation and formation of light intensity curves of LED direct light fixtures at the early stage of their design.
