DETERMINATION OF AGE BY HUMAN STERNUM
Journal Title: International Journal of Anatomy and Research - Year 2018, Vol 6, Issue 3
Abstract
Background: Examination of any bone is important for identification of deceased and estimation of age. The present work is an attempt to study the sternum in the purview of existing parameters of the determination of age. It includes a study of fusion of manubrium with mesosternum, sternal segments, fusion of Xiphoid process with mesosternum in relation to age. Materials and Methods: The present study was carried upon 65 sternums(46 Males and 19 Females). Sternum from cadavers in the Department of Anatomy and Sternum from Autopsy bodies in the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, People’s College of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Bhopal. (MP). Results: Study concluded that Fusion of sternebrae starts at the age of 20 years in male and Fusion of sternebrae starts at the age of 20 years in female. Fusion is completed at the age of 40 years in male and 45 years in female. If complete fusion in males, age is above 40 years and If complete fusion in females, age is above 45 years. No opinion was possible from the incidence of ‘no fusion’. Conclusion: Our study concluded that the fusion of sternum was reliable for determining age.
AN OSTEOLOGICAL STUDY OF ARCUATE FORAMEN IN ATLAS AND ITS CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE
Background: Atlas, first cervical vertebra bears sulcus over posterior arch for third part of vertebral artery. Sometimes an osseous bridge converts the sulcus into a foramen called as Arcuate foramen. It is commonly cal...
STUDY OF VARIATION IN COURSE OF RADIAL NERVE IN AXILLA AND POSTERIOR COMPARTMENT OF ARM
Background: Radial nerve is the continuation of the posterior cord of the brachial plexus in the Axilla. It is the nerve of extensor compartment of upper limb. Objectives: To know the course, and variations of radial ner...
MODE OF UMBILICAL CORD INSERTION AND NEONATAL WEIGHT, AND SOME PLACENTAL FACTORS
Background: Birth weight is an important determinant of health of a child, with low birth weight associated with the occurrence of many chronic diseases in adult life. Aim: The objective of this study is to determine the...
LEVEL OF BIFURCATION OF COMMON CAROTID ARTERY AND MORPHOMETRY OF ANTERIOR BRANCHES OF EXTERNAL CAROTID ARTERY: A DESCRIPTIVE STUDY
Background: The common carotid artery (CCA) divides at the level of superior border of thyroid cartilage. The external carotid artery (ECA) is one of the terminal branches of CCA. ECA gives three anterior branches, Super...
ANATOMICAL VARIATIONS OF THE AXILLARY NERVE: A CADAVERIC STUDY
Background: Axillary nerve is one of the most common nerves which is prone to iatrogenic injuries (6% of all the brachial plexus injuries). Knowledge of the anatomical variations of the axillary nerve in respect to its o...
