Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2017, Vol 10, Issue 49

Abstract

This research is to aim of the determination of the effects of the physical disabled volleyball team athletes’ problem solving skills to decision making styles. As a research model, a descriptive method has been adopted from quantitative research methods. The research group consists of 77 athletes (Age: 32.71443 ± 10.30822) participating in sitting volleyball championship organized in Eregli, Zonguldak on 17-22 May, 2016. "Problem Solving Inventory", "Melbourne Decision Making Scale" and "Personal Information Form" developed by the researcher to determine the personal characteristics of the athletes were used as data collection tools. In the study, multiple regression analysis was applied to determine the causal relationship between two scales. As a result of this research; athletes’ total problem solving skills levels (Mean = 98.27) and impetuous approach levels (Mean = 15.04), avaidant approach levels (Mean = 13,23), evaluator approach levels (mean = 8,35), self-assured approach levels (Mean = 20,88) and planned approach levels (Mean = 10,45) from the problem solving skill sub-dimensions are below the mid level. The level of self-esteem in decision making (Av. = 3.57) and vigilance decision-making level from decision making sub-dimensions (Av. = 3.42) of the athletes participating in the study are below the mid-level. Buck-passing decision making (Mean= 6.88), procrastination decision making level (Mean= 5.68) and hyper vigilance decision making level (Mean= 5.61) are below the mid-level. In addition, while there was a positive relationship between self-esteem score (B = 1.004) and vigilance decision-making score (B = 3.571), a negative relationship among buck-passing decision making (B = -0.453), procrastination decision making (B=-0.956) and hypervigilance decision making (B=-2.253) was found.
