Determination of the frequency of ‘Pediculus humanus capitis’ in girls at a dormitory in Ordu province

Abstract

Purpose: In this study, the cross-sectional frequency of Pediculus humanus capitis infestation in a girls' hostel in Ordu province was investigated. Materials and Methods: A total of 189 students between the ages of 13-18 in a Girls' Hostel in Ordu were evaluated for Pediculus humanus capitis (P. h. Capitis) infestation. Results: In our study, a female student hostel in Ordu province was screened in terms of the incidence of P. h. capitis. All of the students were female students and 189 students were screened and 42 students were positive. In 22.2% of the students, P. h. Capitis was detected. This situation revealed that P. capitis infestation is still an important public health problem in Ordu province. Conclusion: In our study, it was concluded that the necessary public health trainings about the transmission of parasites between humans and the ways of protection from this contamination should be planned and carried out in cooperation with the Provincial Health Directorate and Ordu University.
