Determining the Factors Affecting Birth Weight by Using Logistic Regression Method

Journal Title: Black Sea Journal of Health Science - Year 2018, Vol 1, Issue 2

Abstract

It is important to determine the risk factors that cause low birth weight, to direct the measures to be taken at the time of birth and after, and to have healthy development of the baby. In this study, variables such as age, last menstrual body weight, smoking status, previous births, total number of pregnancies, kinship status, gender, hemoglobin level and hypertension variables which are thought to affect the birth weight have been considered in this study. According to the results of logistic regression analysis, birth weight, age, last menstrual period body weight, smoking status, total number of gestations, sex, and hypertension variables were found to be effective on birth weight (p < 0.01). Whether or not they had given birth before, kinship status and hemoglobin level were determined to be insignificant. At the same time, age and smoking status have been reached as the result of interaction with the last menstrual period weight.
