Developing A Pre-Service Teachers Clinical Supervision Assessment

Journal Title: Religación. Revista de Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades - Year 2019, Vol 4, Issue 17

Abstract

The assessments of pre-service teachers’ performance are very important components in teaching practice. In order to assess their performance efficiently and comprehensively, several assessment methods should be used. Three assessment methods are suggested: clinical supervision assessment, portfolio/ e-portfolio assessment, and pre-service teachers’ ethical assessment. There are several common criteria used by teacher training institutions in Malaysia including Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) to assess the pre-service teacher's performance in clinical supervision such as instructional plan, teaching skills, professional knowledge, professional practice, classroom management, and language proficiency. However, the criteria may vary among the teacher training institutions and they employ a different kind of instruments in assessing each criterion since there are no standard criteria used. This paper presents the preliminary findings on an enhanced clinical supervision assessment of UPSI. The assessment instruments were obtained after a critical review and comparative analysis of teaching practice and clinical supervision framework, models and elements used by local and international teacher training institutions were conducted.
