DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION OF PRONIOSOMES AS A PROMISING DRUG CARRIER TO IMPROVE TRANSDERMAL DRUG DELIVERY

Journal Title: International Research Journal of Pharmacy (IRJP) - Year 2011, Vol 2, Issue 11

Abstract

Drug delivery systems using colloidal particulate carriers such as liposomes and niosomes have distinct advantages over conventional dosage forms. However, there remain significant problems like instability in the general application of liposomes and niosomes for drug delivery. Proniosome have the potential to become a promising drug carrier in order to give stability to niosomal drug delivery system without interfering it,s meritorious properties. Proniosomes is dry formulation using suitable carrier coated with non ionic surfactants and can be converted into niosomes immediately before use by hydration. This article describes the detail of formulation and evaluation of Proniosome including morphology, particle size, particle size distribution and drug release and their advantages over noisome. In all parameters proniosome are better than conventional niosomes.
