DEVELOPMENT OF COPING ACROSS THE LIFE SPAN OF PERSONALITY

Abstract

The article is dedicated to problem of the development of coping across the life span of personality. Despite consensus that coping and individual development are inherently inter-connected, comprehensive reviews are rare — most studies have focused on particular age groups. A developmental framework was used to issue of relative efficiency in coping with stress and role of social resources in it. Different theoretical models of age-related changes in the means of coping age periodization formation of coping behavior suggest were discussed. Many studies of attachment have focused on how parents of children calm in stressful situations. The reactions of parents on children’s stress are considered an important part of coping resources of the child and the parent «social control» in early childhood. Other authors call this process coregulation, which is considered a necessary prerequisite for the development of their own self-regulation in children. The phenomenon known as «dyadic coping» and its development were described. In this field remain many questions about the conceptualization and measurement provided in the article constructs in ways appropriate age studied. Future directions in the study of life-span coping have also outlined.
