DIABETES MELLITUS AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
Journal Title: Sport Mont - Year 2010, Vol 0, Issue 21
Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a syndrome that is characterized by the elevated glucose levels in the blood and the metabolic abnormalities concerning carbohydrates, lipids and proteins, which is all related to the absolute or relative deficit in insulin secretion and/or insulin action itself. Many studies have shown that the importance, role and the extent of physical activity is directly related to the general health status, quality of life, general and working ability, incidence of atherosclerosis and to the morbidity and mortality rate in the population. Among other things, physical activity is a very important factor in diabetes mellitus prevention, as well as in the therapy of patients already suffering from this disease.
