DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF CHRONIC THROMBOEMBOLIC PULMONARY HYPERTENSION

Abstract
Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is a distinct form of pulmonary hypertension due to chronic obstruction of the pulmonary artery tree. If left untreated, the prognosis is poor. Pulmonary endarterectomy is the choice of treatment if main pulmonary arteries are affected. Baloon angioplasty is the new less common treatment method. In case of inoperable CTEPH a new medication – riociguat is available.
