Diagnostic and Prognostic Significance of Soluble Vascular Cell Adhesion Molecule-1 (sVCAM-1) in Children with Bronchial Asthma
Journal Title: Здоров`я дитини - Year 2016, Vol 2, Issue 70
Abstract
To study the level of sVCAM-1 in children with bronchial asthma at different stages of the disease, we have examined 69 children aged from 6 to 17 years suffering from persistent bronchial asthma in exacerbation and remission and 15 apparently healthy children of the control group. We performed tourniquet test and determined the level of S-nitrozothiol in the blood serum to assess the endothelial function. Serum sVCAM-1 levels were studied using enzyme immunoassay. The presence of endothelial dysfunction in all children with bronchial asthma was detected. A significant increase in sVCAM-1 level in the blood serum was noted both in acute phase and during remission, indicating a long-term effect on the endothelium and formation of stable chronic inflammation.
