Diagnostyka guzów ślinianki przyusznej

Journal Title: Polski Przegląd Otorynolaryngologiczny - Year 2012, Vol 1, Issue 1

Abstract

Eighty percent of salivary gland tumors occur in the parotid gland. Nearly all of them are treated surgically. Due to the complex anatomy of the region, parotid surgery is associated with the potential risk of serious complications. Therefore the successful treatment is dependent on correct preoperative evaluation. Diagnostics of parotid gland tumors should provide the surgeon with the information regarding the location of the tumor relative to the facial nerve, whether the tumor is benign or malignant, and its relation to the adjacent structures. This article reviews the role of different diagnostic tools in the management of tumors of the parotid gland. The benefis and limitations of these modalities are discussed.
