Diamond surface finishing of ceramic balls from boron carbide

Abstract

The article experimentally investigates the influence of factor of machining conditions on diamond surface finishing of ceramic balls from boron carbide. The indicators of machining are rate of work removal parameter, rate of decrease/increase in deviation from spherical form of the ball and variation of ball lot diameter. The share is allocated in these indicators that actually depended on the effect of the factor of machining conditions. For this, the method of graphical approximation is applied for the time variation of the characteristics of accuracy of ball lot. It is found that the selected shares of the process indices can change both increasingly and decreasingly depending on the value of the parameters of the machining conditions. They are the pressing force of the lap, the time between of the discrete feed of diamond paste and the paste base (the oil or water). As a result of carrying out of a full factor experiment of ‘23’ type the best effective combination of parameters was ascertained for decrease of non-circularity of ball and variation of ball lot diameter.
