Diet and its influence on clinical complications during dialysis treatment

Abstract

Introduction.Elderly pregnancy represents a public health problem due to its repercussions on the mother-child relationship. Objective.To analyze diet and its influence on clinical complications during dialysis treatment in patients at the Hospital de Especialidades Abel Gilbert Pontón de Guayaquil, September 2021-September 2022. Materials and methods.The observational, non-experimental, quantitative, descriptive cross-sectional research design with a sample of 126 hemodialysis patients, a data collection sheet was used as an instrument. Results.The sociodemographic characteristics of interest were: male gender in 53.9%, age group from 55 to 64 years with 29.3%, secondary educational level in 53.9% and were retired in 46.8%; 53.9% were of normal weight and 46.8% ate cereals and vegetables; among the main clinical complications, malnutrition was evidenced in 23%, anorexia in 14.2% and metabolic acidosis in 11.1%. Conclusion. It was possible to carry out the sociodemographic characterization of hemodialysis patients, determine aspects associated with their nutrition such as nutritional status according to BMI and the type of foodwith the highest intake, in addition to establishing the main clinical complications associated with eating.
