Different management modalities in chronic osteomyelitis of long bones following open fractures: A case series
Journal Title: International Journal of Orthopaedics Sciences - Year 2018, Vol 4, Issue 4
Abstract
Chronic osteomyletis is one of the most dreaded complication of 0pen fractures and a surgeons nightmare. Eradication of COM requires aggressive surgical excision combined with effective antibiotic treatment and reconstructive procedures. The goal of therapy in such patients is to restore the functional anatomy of the limb. Depending on our experience and the type of infected nonunion we individualize a modality of management for the patient and the type of nonunion. The various modalities used were Corticotomy and lengthening using Ilizarov or LRS, Customized antibiotic rod implantation, Membrane osteosynthesis, Resection and endoprosthesis and Papineau technique. We followed up these patients till the radiological and clinical union occured and eradication of infection. The outcomes were based on bony union, functional outcome based on range of motion and occupational rehabilitation with eradication of infection at the last follow up. We publish our series of such cases and review of literature with representative cases.

A study of functional outcome of tibial condylar fractures treated with articular reconstruction
Objective: The goal of this study it to access the functional and radiological outcome of articular reconstruction as a treatment modality for depressed tibial condylar fractures, using autogenous iliac bone graft as a “...
A comparative study between splinting versus corticosteroid injection in de-quervain’s disease
Background: de Quervain’s disease (DQ) is painful tenosynovitis of first dorsal compartment of hand. It is usually caused by overuse or repetitive activity. There are various modalities of treatment of DQ. Different stud...
Functional results of arthroscopic bankart’s Repair (ABR) in bankart’s lesion of the shoulder
Background: Shoulder pain due to shoulder instability is a disabilitating cause in patients aged 15 to 40 years who are active. Shoulder instability in the anterior direction is most commonly due to post traumatic should...
To evaluate the long-term results and to identify predictive factors of functional outcomes of floating shoulders treated either conservatively or surgically
Introduction: The ‘floating shoulder’ is a rare injury [1] consisting of ipsilateral fractures of the clavicle and glenoid neck. It was first described by Ganz and Noesberger in 1975. Subsequently, Goss expanded on their...
Functional outcomes of subtrochanteric femur fractures treated by intramedullary proximal femur nail
Introduction: Subtrochanteric fractures are femoral fractures where the fracture occurs below the lesser trochanter to 5 cm distal in the shaft femur. These fractures account for 10-30% of all hip fractures. They have bi...
