Difficulties in Translating Legal Texts the Interaction between Terminology and Translation
Journal Title: Studies in Social Sciences and Humanities - Year 2016, Vol 4, Issue 2
Abstract
Nowadays, the translation of legal texts has become a considerable task and it is highly important to provide an errorless final product, since the lack of accuracy could possibly have serious consequences. One of the main difficulties for translators during the translation process is the fact that legal language is characterized by a high terminological density and that most of the terms are polysemic and show different meanings depending on the legal field concerned. The aim of this paper is to focus on the main difficulties that legal translators (English-Spanish, Spanish-English) deal with, and the significant contribution made by the linguistic field of Terminology, as a multifaceted science that serves as an essential tool in Translation studies. To achieve this end, I provide a sample of the main features present in a real terminological project.
