Digestibility, ingestive behaviour and performance of non-descript breed hair lambs of different sexual classes subjected to feed restriction
Journal Title: Journal of Animal and Feed Sciences - Year 2014, Vol 23, Issue 2
Abstract
The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of feed restriction and sexual classes on digestibility, ingestive behaviour and performance of nondescript breed hair lambs. Forty-five animals (15 males, 15 castrated males and 15 females) were distributed in a completely randomized 3 x 3 factorial design, with three feeding levels: ad libitum feeding (positive energy balance), 70% restriction of the ad libitum intake (maintenance level) and 80% restriction of the ad libitum intake (negative energy balance). For all variables, there was no effect of sexual class nor interaction of sexual class with feeding levels (P > 0.05). Animals fed restricted diets had a higher rumination time per unit of dry matter intake (P < 0.05). Digestibility was higher in feed-restricted lambs (P < 0.05). Weight gain and feed efficiency were lower for feed restriction (P < 0.05). Sexual class did not affect intake, digestibility, ingestive behaviour, or performance. Feed restriction affected digestibility and ingestive behaviour.

The comparison of propylene glycol and glycerol as feed additives in early lactation of high producing dairy cows
The aim of this study was to compare the antiketogenic effect of glycerol and propylene glycol after parturition. Two experiments were carried out on 36 Holstein cows. In each experiment there were 18 dairy cows receivin...
Two different forms and levels of CuSO4 in piglet feeding: liver, plasma and faeces copper status
A 35-d experiment involving 150 crossbred pigs weaned at 26 ± 2 d of age was conducted to evaluate the effect of different forms of CuSO4 on the copper content of liver, plasma and faeces. Piglets were randomly allocated...
Bayesian segregation analysis of test-day milk yield in Tunisian Sicilo-Sarde dairy sheep
Segregation analyses were performed using a Monte Carlo Markov Chain (MCMC) method implemented using Gibbs Sampling. A total of 8387 test-day milk records obtained from the Sicilo-Sarde dairy flock of the Tunisian Nation...
Ovarian, metabolic and endocrine indexes in dairy cows with different body condition scores
Body condition can influence bovine fertility, but the morphological, biochemical and endocrine mechanisms of this influence are not fully understood. The aim of the study was to examine the interrelationships between co...
Effects of dietary herbal essential oil mixture and organic acid preparation on laying traits, gastrointestinal tract characteristics, blood parameters and immune response of laying hens in a hot summer season
In this study, the effects of essential oil mixture, organic acid and essential oil mixture + organic acid supplementation in diets in summer season on egg production traits, egg quality parameters, some digestive system...
