Digital restoration of monumental art objects using CV and machine learning

Journal Title: Modern Innovations, Systems and Technologies - Year 2024, Vol 4, Issue 4

Abstract

The article investigates the possibility of using the OpenCV library (implemented in the Python programming language) for digital restoration of monumental art objects. The paper presents methods for image analysis and restoration of damaged elements of objects using image processing algorithms available in OpenCV and machine learning, applied in decision support systems. The authors consider the image processing process, starting from pre-processing and segmentation to final restoration and vectorization. The advantages and limitations of using OpenCV in the context of digital restoration are discussed, as well as the possibilities for further development of the applied approach. The results of digital restoration and vectorization of thematic sgraffiti on the building of the Khakasenergo branch in Abakan demonstrate the effectiveness of the program, which can further be a useful tool for preserving the historical and cultural heritage of the Yenisei Siberia.
