Discrete Element Method and Some Applications in Agricultural Machinery
Journal Title: MAS Journal of Applied Sciences - Year 2023, Vol 8, Issue 4
Abstract
The discrete element method (DEM) is an important numerical method that can simulate the dynamic behavior of particle systems at the micro level and bulk (bulk) materials at the macro level. This study covers the investigation of discrete element method (DEM) applications of tillage, sowing, fertilization, and harvesting which is from the stages of agricultural production. The outline of the study includes basic theoretical information about the discrete element method, then calibration contact models and examination of model parameters, and finally academic studies on DEM applications in agricultural production stages. In the light of the data obtained from the studies, it is concluded that the discrete element method (DEM) is a very successful and effective method for simulating soil and plant dynamics in agricultural activities and will be used frequently in future studies.
