Abstract
Statistica este ştiinţa de cunoaştere cu cea mai mare sferă de cuprindere de aplicare şi utilizare a metodelor sale de culegere, prelucrare şi prezentare de date şi informaţii din diferite ramuri de activitate: industrie, agricultură, comerţ, sănătate, învăţământ, cultură ş.a., cât şi din domenii de cercetare a fenomenelor economice, sociologice demografice, politice ş.a., fiind aşa cum preciza părintele statisticii româneşti, Dionisie Pop Marţian (1829-1865), că statistica „trebuie să fie busola de orientare a statului.”
