Distribution carnivores diseases in Minsk

Abstract

Introduction. Viruses from 11 genera, representing nine families, take part in the infectious pathology of dogs. Due to successful use of preventive vaccination, the number of cases of infectious diseases of viral etiology in dogs continues to decrease. However, the emergence of new pathogens and the evolution of well-known viruses determine the need for continuous monitoring. The goal of the work was to study the spread of dog diseases in Minsk and to assess the etiological role of viruses in the occurrence of diseases. Materials and methods. To diagnose carnivorous plague, Asan EasyTest CDV Ag was used, for parvovirus infection - “FASTest® CPV Ab.” (Korea), for the coronavirus enteritis of dogs - the test kit VetExpert. Highly sensitive immunochromatographic express tests were used for qualitatively determination of the carnivore virus antigens (CDV), coronavirus enteritis, and dog parvovirus in samples of dog physiological fluids in a primary screening study. Results of research and discussion. An analysis of the spread of dog diseases in Minsk was carried out and the etiological structure of viral infections in dogs was studied. It is established that for 2011-2015 in the veterinary institutions of Minsk 123301 dogs were investigated. Clinical signs specific for viral infections were observed: fever above 40°C occurred in 31.5% of dogs, conjunctivitis in 15.5%, upper respiratory tract infection in 39.5%, gastrointestinal tract damage 35.9%, nerve system damage in 6.7%, skin damage in 6.7% of animals. Coronavirus and enteritis antigens were detected in 9.7-18% of the examined sick dogs, the antigens of the plague virus were not detected. Conclusions and prospects for further research. The criteria for carnivore's viral infections diagnostics on the base of clinical manifestation have been developed. Antigens of the plague and enteritis viruses were detected in 9.7 to 18% of the examined dog.
