DIVERSIFIED EXCIPIENT CHARACTERIZATION OF A BIOCOMPATIBLE EXCIPIENTS
Journal Title: Mintage journal of pharmaceutical and medical sciences - Year 2017, Vol 6, Issue 8
Abstract
Objective: The main Objective of the present work was polymers obtained from natural origin has great compliance in the Pharmaceutical industry and most suitable for use in formulations. Material Used: Sago is a powdery starch made extracted in the spongy center, or pith, of various tropical palm stems, especially Metroxylon sagu. The sago palm, Metroxylon sagu, is found in tropical lowland forest and freshwater swamps across Southeast Asia and New Guinea and is the primary source of sago. It tolerates a wide variety of soils and may reach 30 meters in height. Results: The present study is aimed to characterize the sago powder for excipient activities. This excipient is proposed to have a binder, diluent, and thickening agent activity. Conclusion : The concentrations at which various excipient activities are shown were to be determined. This excipient, if used in formulations, can serve as a biocompatible, cost-effective polymer and can also act as a nutritional supplement
