DIVISION OF LABOUR IN THE INTERNATIONAL MIGRATION IN COMPLIANCE WITH ETHNICITY AND GENDER: THE CASE OF HOPA

Abstract
This study aims at understanding how the immigrant workers position themselves in the labour market of the society to which they migrated, in compliance with ethnicity and gender. Accordingly, it is possible to grasp the mentioned division of labour by considering the views of both immigrant workers and employers. In this study, I focus on the disorganized, illegal and informal characteristics of the labour market and the inequalities caused by ethnicity and gender of the immigrant workers in the case the labour migration from Georgia to Hopa, Turkey. Within this scope, a qualitative research was conducted in that twenty Georgian workers and eight employers were interviewed in the city of Hopa. As outcomes of this research, it needs to be stressed that, between Turkish and Georgian workers some important sociological differences found with regard to their views of performance, time, meaning and quality of work in compliance with their ethnicity and gender.
