Do Moroccan Agricultural Cooperatives Have a Social Responsibility? An Exploratory Qualitative Study

Abstract

In recent years, Moroccan cooperative work has evolved in terms of achieving the objectives of social, economic and environmental development; where the State encourages the creation of agricultural cooperatives in view of their importance in achieving the objectives of the Green Morocco Plan. Cooperatives are first and foremost the particular application of a very old concept: cooperation. They are characterized by the principles of equity, solidarity, democratic governance system, volunteerism, economic participation and value-added sharing: These principles represent the basis for achieving sustainable development, for which cooperatives are better placed than other companies in terms of corporate social responsibility (CSR). In this paper, we are interested in undertaking research work on the role of the Moroccan cooperative model in sustainable development based on an empirical study of 12 agricultural cooperatives.
