Journal Title: PRAGATI: Journal of Indian Economy - Year 2018, Vol 5, Issue 1
Abstract
Pollution is not exclusively an environmental concern as its impact is seen not only on the health but it also has massive social and economic spillovers. India’s remarkable economic development in the past boosted by rapid industrialization is highly appreciable; however, the industrialization has been followed up rising environment deterioration. At this point, it is necessary to address these problems linked to the quality of environment with utmost importance because if nature revolts, it would be very difficult to attain the desired economic growth. India Government has been progressively more concerned on the issues of environmental pollution which is evident by the rising number of environment laws, policies and programs. The paper conducts an in-depth analysis to study the impact of rising pollution on the economy through assessment of cost involved in environmental degradation and loss of human power. This paper reviews the studies which have examined the empirical relationship between economic growth and environmental degradation.
